Place of origin

Stella Jean is a Roman fashion designer of Haitian heritage whose Black and Creole identities are an important part of her work. She is the first and only (as of 2022) member of the Italian Chamber of Fashion to have an Afro-European background. Jean's use of West African waxprint cotton from Burkina Faso in this outfit exemplifies her design approach. She designs using textiles and jewellery created by artisans from Haitian and African communities, foregrounding their craftsmanship and providing them with economic agency.
