Place of origin |
This artist's book by Chloë Cheese is in the form of a diary recording recipes, characters and memories from time spent at The Eagle Public House. Images by the artist are combined with texts by Michael Belben and Emma Hill and recipes and food writing by The Eagle chef David Eyre. The stylised lettering of the title (like a pub sign) and miniature lemon on the book's cover already hint at its contents. Inside, the 6 colour and 12 black and white lithographs by Cheese of pub interiors, everyday scenes and vividly depicted food ingredients accompany the mouth-watering recipes and texts which reminisce variously about first encounters, wedding receptions and the nicknames given to the regular customers. The work functions as recipe book, diary and scrapbook. It's text is reproduced from handwriting, in keeping with the intimate tone of its subject matter.
