Place of origin |
This innovative ring, described by its designer Saara Hopea-Untracht as a 'Wing' ring, extends both above and below the band and across the adjoining two fingers, to create an extensive jewelled area on the back of the hand.
Saara Hopea-Untracht, one of Finland's leading twentieth-century designers, worked in many media. From a family of goldsmiths, she began designing jewellery in 1958, and her designs were made in the family workshop in the town of Porvoo. She had originally trained as a glass worker but moved back into jewellery after her father's death made her essential to the family business. She mastered the art of goldsmithing but also worked closely with Karl-Göran Ahlberg, the goldsmith who collaborated with her on many of her designs.
