Physical description | Silk programme on cream silk in blue typography with brown lithographs recto of Mr H.E. Moss (managing director) and Mr Oscar Barrett. Printed on both sides to fold in three. Three pictorial panels of scenes from Cinderella recto, and a central panel giving the cast list verso, with the words 'Grand Opening Night', the date and a statue motif printed to the left and right of the central panel. Selvage at top and bottom frayed to form fringe. Produced for the Grand Opening Night of The New Empire Palace Theatre, Liverpool, 19th December 1896. |

Object history | The Liverpool Empire Theatre, designed by the architect Frank Matcham was managed by H.E. Moss of The Liverpool, Leeds and Hull Empire Palaces Ltd., later of Moss Empires. This silk programme was produced for the opening night of the theatre, 19th December 1896, when the cast included Miss Florrie Harmon as Cinderella, Mr. Victor Stevens and Mr. Fred Emney as the wicked step-sisters Thisbe and Clorinda, Mr. Deane Brand as the Baron, Miss Minnie Inch as the Wicked Stepmother, Mr. Reuben Inch as the Baron's Servant, Miss Kate Chard as the Prince Felix, Miss Marie Campbell as Dandini and Miss Elsie Irving as the Fairy Godmother. In the Harlequinade, Clown was played by Reuben Inch, Pantaloon by Mr. J. Wheatman, Harlequin by Mr. Walter Capes, and Columbine by Lillie Taylor. |
