Stencil

late 19th century (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This album of stencils (some of them used) came from the studio of Theodore Roussel (1812-1867). Whilst there is as yet no evidence that Roussel used the stencils for any of his published prints, certain stencils do bear some similarity to the printed patterns he designed as frames for some of his prints. The stencils are good exampes of Japanesque pattern-types fashionable in the later 19th century.
