The Orchid is a musical play in two acts by James T. Tanner, with lyrics by Adrian Ross and Percy Greenbank and music by Ivan Caryll and Lionel Monckton and additional numbers by Paul Rubens. The Orchid was the first show played in the renovated Gaiety Theatre. King Edward VII (1841-1910) and Queen Alexandra (1844-1925) both attended the opening night of the production which opened at Gaiety Theatre in London on 26 October 1903. The production ran for 559 performances and also went on to have a successful Broadway run, revivals and a U.S. tour.
Gertie Millar (1879-1952), Gabrielle Ray (1883-1973), Harry Grattan (d.1951), Edmund Payne (1863-1914) and George Grossmith, Jr. (1874-1935) performed the lead roles.
