Print of a proof sketch drawn by John Bernard Partridge (1861-1945) for the Punch Almanack. The sketch shows Sir Henry Irving (1838–1905) as he appeared in the role of Napolean. Irving played this role in a production of Madame Sans Gene by Victorien Sardou (1831-1908) staged at the Lyceum Theatre in 1897. This sketch is dated 1895.

From 1841-2002, Punch magazine published half a million satirical cartoons addressing subjects ranging from Domestic and Foreign Affairs and Science and Technology to Culture, Art, Fashion and Society.
