Physical description | Print of a proof sketch drawn by John Bernard Partridge (1861-1945) for the Punch Almanack. The sketch shows Sir Henry Irving (1838–1905) dressed in an informal suit. He is seated at a table and evidently eating whilst reading the book grasped in his left hand. A large bottle of cod liver oil and a tin of golden syrup are on the table before him and a large bag of kidneys and scotch oatmeal are positioned to his right. The sketch is entitled 'Sir Henry Irving preparing for the role of Napoleon' and is dated 1895. |
