Punch Matches were manufactured by J. John Masters & Co Ltd. with this image of Mr. Punch appearing on the sleeve cover for many years. This box, printed with the price two pence and the average content of 40 matches, is from the 1970s. Earlier versions exist that have slightly different labels - printed with different prices and match contents. Those priced at fourpence (pre decimal currency) contained an average content of 48 matches, and those priced one and a halfpence (pre decimal currency) contained an average of 49 matches. Other versions of the 1970s matchbox have different doodles on the back of the sleeve, and a wartime version has no printed price but bears the legend 'Matches are precious - make them last'.
