Off the Shoulder

Shirt
1985 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Joe Casely-Hayford (1956–2019) was born in the United Kingdom in 1956, into a British-Ghanaian family.

A graduate of the Tailor and Cutter Academy, St. Martin’s School of Art and of Douglas Hayward of Mount Street, Casely-Hayford established his own menswear label in 1984. His early style demonstrated classic tailoring with a subversive twist drawn from streetstyle and club culture.

This shirt from his 1985 spring/summer collection features the oversized proportions that many associate with 1980s fashion, as well as an illusory double-front to give the impression that the wearer carries a second shirt hung from their left shoulder.
