H. Lankrink (Lugt 2090); W. Young Ottley (indicated by the mount; see Lugt, Supplement 2662); Sir T. Lawrence (Lugt 2445); S. Woodburn (sale, Christie, 4-8 June 1860, bought for the Museum) The attribution to this abscure Milanese artist (accepted by Ottley on his mount) rests entirely on the old inscription. According to Lomazzo (Idea del Tempio della Pittura, Milan, 1590, p. 164), Suardo was 'profondissimo nella prospettiva, e singolare ne gl'intagli dei tabernacoli, figure, e altre rare inventioni di legno.
