Religious medallions, often mounted in decorative filigree frames, were widely worn in Catholic Spain. They were often acquired as souvenirs at the numerous pilgrimage sites, and were used as amulets against all the dangers of daily life as much as aids to prayer.

This pendant contains images of St. Jane Frances de Chantal and St. Francis de Sales.

Brief description
Oval silver filigree pendant enclosing a medallion with St. Jane Frances de Chantal on the obverse, and St. Francis de Sales on the reverse, Spain, 1800-1890.
Physical description
Oval silver-gilt medallion in a silver filigree frame of eight tulip shapes. The medallion has an image of Saint Jane Frances de Chantal on one side, and of Saint Francis de Sales on the other. There is a loop at the top for suspension.
