This Priest is part of two sets made and used by the Punch professor Edward Charles Webb of Stepney who usually performed his shows in Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Essex and Hertfordshire. He had two sets of figures and booths because his son and his son-in-law both worked shows.

Brief description
Glove puppet of the Priest made and used by the Punch & Judy professor Edward Charles Webb (1890-1961). Carved and painted wood and fabric. English, probably 1930s or 1940s. Given by Mrs. Linda Cooper.
Physical description
Glove puppet of the Priest with carved and painted head and hands and black bouclé fabric hair. He wears a black satin robe with white cardboard cuffs, half a white cardboard collar and a length of navy fabric folded and nailed to the front to represent a bow tie.

This is a figure from one of two sets of Punch & Judy figures created by Professor Webb and handed down to his granddaughter who gave them to the museum.
