This Magistrate is part of two sets made and used by the Punch professor Edward Charles Webb of Stepney who usually performed his shows in Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Essex and Hertfordshire. He had two sets of figures and booths because his son and his son-in-law both worked shows.

Brief description
Glove puppet of the Magistrate made and used by the Punch & Judy professor Edward Charles Webb (1890-1961). Carved and painted wood and fabric. English, probably 1930s or 1940s. Given by Mrs. Linda Cooper.
Physical description
Glove puppet of the Magistrate with carved and painted face and hands, and synthetic fur hair. He has painted eyes and wears a robe of orange mohair robe trimmed with red cotton braid and three black buttons at the front and purple wool fabric at the back to simulate a long robe. He wears a purple velvet tricorne hat edged with yellow braid and decorated with a gold crown at the front, and a matching short purple velvet cape edged with yellow braid.

This is a figure from one of two sets of Punch & Judy figures created by Professor Webb and handed down to his granddaughter who gave them to the museum.
