Object history
Kutch was a major silver-working region and its wares were strongly represented in the international exhibitions in the West in the second half of the 19th century. The craftsmen changed from making their traditional pencases and rosewater sprinklers for the indigenous market to producing European forms. This "Cutch silver" was sold through Liberty's of Regent Street and appeared in their mail order catalogues of the late 19th and early 20th century, featuring for example, as a suggestion for "Yuletide Gifts".

Purchased from J. W. B. Money, Esq. This acquisition information reflects that found in the Museum records (Asia Department registers and/or Central Inventory) as part of a 2023 provenance research project.
