This is a cast iron (Gusseisen) statuette depicting a hunter with gun set on a wood socle. It German, made in about 1820-1840, probably by Buderus Guss GmbH, Kunstguss, Hirzenhain, Germany. It reflects a strong tradition of cast iron production in Prussia in the nineteenth century, and at the same time looks back to vernacular traditions of hunting and man's interaction with nature in Germany.
