This girl's dress was produced in the 1970s by Motif clothing. It is made from knitted fabric and has a blue, purple and black geometric design covering it. The dress is smocked, which was a popular style for that era.

Physical description	Girl's smocked dress made from knitted fabric printed with a blue, purple and black geometric pattern on it. The dress has a plain black panel across the shoulders and chest, and the same fabric used for the cuffs. The cuffs are fastened with black plastic buttons but the dress itself has a zip running up the back.
Dimensions	Neck to bottom hem length: 68cm The label sewn into the back of the dress states that the dress is made for a girl aged 10 years old, with a height of 55", a chest measurement of 28'', and a waist measurement of 24".
Marks and inscriptions	'Motif, AGE 10, HEIGHT 55", CHEST 28", WAIST 24", DESIGNED AND MADE IN ENGLAND' (Located on material label sewn into back of dress)

Object history	This dress was donated by Jackie and Norman Newton who opened a children's clothing boutique in Essex in the early 1970s. The dress was one of the items saved after the shop closed a few years later. The objects donated by the Newtons were often worn by their own children.
