This girl's dress was produced in the 1970s by Motif clothing. It is made from knitted fabric and has a blue, purple and black geometric design covering it. The dress is smocked, which was a popular style for that era.

Physical description
Girl's smocked dress made from knitted fabric printed with a blue, purple and black geometric pattern on it. The dress has a plain black panel across the shoulders and chest, and the same fabric used for the cuffs. The cuffs are fastened with black plastic buttons but the dress itself has a zip running up the back.

The label sewn into the back of the dress states that the dress is made for a girl aged 10 years old, with a height of 55", a chest measurement of 28'', and a waist measurement of 24".

This dress was donated by Jackie and Norman Newton who opened a children's clothing boutique in Essex in the early 1970s. The dress was one of the items saved after the shop closed a few years later. The objects donated by the Newtons were often worn by their own children.
