Drawing in pencil of primary image of a flop-eared rabbit peeping out of a half-opened doorway, paw draped over closed door-chain. In the left foreground is the back view of a wolf's head, fishing rod to his left and right fore-paw raised. Asymmetric border in pen and ink over pencil (mainly below and to the right of the primary image) illustrating the title. A rabbit peeps into fishing basket from which emerges a fish's tail, coat lies on ground in front. Rod leans against a tree. Foliage all around and reed-fringed stream or lake.

Object history
Given by Leslie Linder (1904-1973) to the National Book League (now the Book Trust) in 1970 as part of a representative selection of Beatrix Potter's work. This selection, comprising 279 drawings and 38 early editions and now known as the Linder Collection, was formerly on long-term loan to the Victoria and Albert Museum between 1989 and 2019 form the charitable trust, The Linder Trust.
