Brief description
Leaf from a Bible, France (Paris), middle or 3rd quarter of the 13th century.
Physical description
Leaf from a Latin bible made in France in the 13th century. Decorated initials with penwork flourishes. Double-sided. Written in black ink with some red highlights. Colour pigments and ink. 53 lines of text in two columns. Running title and chapter numbers in blue and red ink.
Decoration:
Recto: decorated initials "B" at the beginning of chapter 8, in red with blue and red penwork flourishes, and "U" at the beginning of chapter 9, in blue with red and blue penwork flourishes.
Verso: decorated initials "P" at the beginning of chapter 10, in red with blue and red penwork flourishes.

Text: Vulgate Bible (Latin version of the Bible, translated from Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic by Saint Jerome): Chronicles 1, 7:24 - 10:5.

20th-century notes on the recto " I paraliepomena 8.9.10", and 13th-century notes on the verso.

Leaf from a Latin portable bible . This kind of bible appeared in Paris in the 1220s and contained the complete Bible in a single volume.
