Al Frueh (1880-1968) was an American cartoonist and caricaturist for The New Yorker magazine from 1925 to 1962. This print forms part of a portfolio of caricatures, Stage Folk: A Book of Caricatures by Frueh, published by Lieber & Lewis in 1922. It was exhibited at the Theatre Museum in Theatre Caricatures by Al Frueh: West End Meets Broadway, in 1990.

This print is a caricature of the French actress Yvette Guilbert (1865-1944). Guilbert frequently performed in London, including the Duke of York's in 1901 and Haymarket in 1905. She moved to New York in 1915 where she remained until 1922. In addition to performing in New York she opened an acting school.

Linocut caricature of Yvette Guilbert in profile wearing a green hat. The outline drawing of Guilbert has been printed in black. The tassels and ribbon of Guilbert's hat have been printed in light yellow and then overprinted in light green to match Guilbert's eye shadow. Guilbert's hair has been printed in a brown. The background has been printed in light yellow leaving Frueh's signature un-printed in the top right corner showing the paper beneath.
