This gold clasp, made about 1780-1800, has been used as the setting for a later miniature of the English actress, Maud Branscombe, painted in about 1880. The identification has been made by John Culme by comparison with a photograph by the London Stereoscopic & Photographic Co Ltd, which was taken in about 1878 and matches the portait in the clasp.
