Second Sight

Print
2010 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Nicholas Devison (born UK, 1966) is a printmaker who works with photographic and digital media. This print comes from "a body of work which interrogates and illusory and contingent reading of digitised photographic space. The images are realised through a very direct and physical process of monotype, in which ink is pushed through a large press to reveal a residual impression. These indeterminate fields of colour are printed in a grid matrix to from allusions to photographic mapping. The resulting contrast between amorphous data and exact location manifests a reading of space which is simultaneously fixed and equivocal, concrete and fictional." It was selected for the 2011 International Print Biennale in Bradford. Devison's innovative approach to print-making and his exploration of the potential and distinctive characteristics of digital print media represents an important strand in contemporary print practice.
