Facsimile 'Henry Irving as Othello', papyrography, London, ca. 1876, Harry Beard Collection. The papyrograph was a copying device used in the late 19th Century to make facsimiles of word documents and line-drawings. The inventors of the papyrograph claimed that up to 1000 facsimile impressions could be made from one inking of its zinc plate and that a skilled operator could produce up to 500 copies an hour.
