PORTUGUESE COLONIAL: 17th century
Wood covered with cut leather and fitted with an iron mount. The top of the lid and all four sides of the box are covered with scrolling designs of pomegranates and flowering plants with grotesque animals. Round the design on the lid is a border of floral scrollwork and rosettes. The mounts consist of a pierced lock plate and catch and two hinges and a drop handle at each side.
