Mary Yonge worked for many years as a textile designer for Courtalds before becoming the Head of Studio. As she was working at Courtalds, Yonge taught one day a week at Central School of Arts and Design, where she had been a student. Yonge retired from Courtalds and began working freelance in the 1960's. During this period she worked with a group that sold their designs to major companies like Liberty & Co. and Edinburgh Weavers.
Although she used the name 'Yonge' on her work, Mary's married name was 'O'Donovan'. Mary Yonge passed away in 2010 aged 102.
