Historical context
In 1813 Constable exhibited at the Royal Academy 'Landscape: Boys Fishing' and a second landscape. He spent most of the summer and autumn in Suffolk.

Production
Sketchbook was used in Essex and Suffolk between July and October 1813. The inserted leaf is from a sketchbook of the year 1815.
