'CAULDON England' (Factory mark transfer-printed in green)
Historical context
This function of this panel is uncertain. One side has a crudely engraved transfer-printed outline of a jug decorated with what appear to be standard transfer-prints of scrolling foliage, flowers and sprigs. The other side is decorated in style reviving Staffordshire Chinoiserie decoration of the 1820s. It may have been made as a factory sample.
