In this sari the ikat technique has been used to create a contemporary aesthetic by the designers. The sari was woven by Jella Sudhakar, a weaver based in Telangana, India, for Jiyo! (Live!). A brand which was established in 2007 as a creative, economic and social development initiative, building on the long tradition of non-government organisations developing a more ethical and less exploitative way of working with India's large body of crafts people.

IKAT SARI

To create this abstract pattern, the designers worked with the weaver Jella Sudhakar in Pochampally. This was one of many collaborative projects between designers and artisans facilitated by Jiyo!, an organisation set up to support artisans. By producing high quality saris with a contemporary design, Jiyo! want to raise the value of skills associated with hand-made products from India.

Asian Heritage Foundation manage the brand Jiyo! and this sari has been produced and sold under the brand Jiyo!.
