This is a children's silk Japanese jacket. It was made at the silk store, Nozawaya, in Yokohama, Japan, during the early twentieth century. The donor, Mrs Clemow, received the jacket from her aunt, who worked in Kobe, Japan.

Physical description | Japanese silk jacket for a child. It is predominantly made of pale pink silk, with pink flowers and small circles sewn on to the jacket (front and back). The jacket is also lined with white fur which is around the sleeve ends and the sides of the jacket. There are also white fur pompoms either side of the front of the jacket with silk ties hanging down from them. Inside the jacket there is a small piece of green thread sewn in, possible a home repair. |
