A Country Girl, or, Town and Country, a musical play in two acts by James T. Tanner, with lyrics by Adrian Ross, additional lyrics by Percy Greenbank, music by Lionel Monckton and additional songs by Paul Rubens, opened at London's Daly's Theatre on the 18th January 1902. Starring Hayden Coffin, Bertram Wallis, Evie Greene, Huntley Wright, Lilian Eldeé, Topsy Sinden, Ethyl Irving and Rutland Barrington, it ran for 729 performances, the fourth longest run for any piece of musical theatre up to that time.
Piano scores of popular stage musical theatre productions sold well at the turn of the century and meant big business for Chappell & Company, one of the country's leading music publishers and piano manufacturers.
