Hand coloured print of the actress Ellen Terry (1847-1928) as Kniertje in the 1904 production of The Good Hope, a version of the Dutch play Op Hoop Van Zegen by Herman Heijerman (1864-1924). The English text was written by Christopher St John (a.k.a. Christabel Marshall) (1871-1960).

The original image was drawn by Pamela Colman Smith and her characteristic monogram of an interlaced P, C and S is included to the right of the figure.

Pamela Coleman Smith (1878-1951) was an artist and illustrator who became closely involved with the Lyceum Theatre Company, and the actress Ellen Terry (1847-1928) in particular, from the late 1890s. She was best known for her work as an illustrator but she also worked in the field of stage design and exhibited her paintings.

Hand coloured print of the actress Ellen Terry as Kniertje in The Good Hope. It is a full length, front facing, image of the actress, who is wearing a rough skirt, white cap and blouse. She has a shawl over her shoulders which is knotted at her waist. The monogram of artist Pamela Colman Smith, an interlaced P, C and S, is included, lower right. The print is dated 1904.
