Place of origin

This packaging was possibly used for wrapping sewing cotton produced by James Chadwick and Brother Cotten Mill, threadmakers based in Bolton, Lancashire in the 19th and early 20th centuries. A sense of tradition and history is achieved by using a coat of arms on the wrapper. The Latin words Simplex Munditiis on the coat of arms translate as ‘simple, in neat attire’.
