This is a plaster cast of the marble tomb of the celebrated lawyer Filippo Decio. The inscription records his career, noting that he lectured at the universities (studi) of Florence, Siena, Padua and Pavia, as well as in France. He provided for this monument with the handsome stipend he earned from his time in Florence, where he died. The sculptor and architect Stagio Stagi ran a successful workshop in Pisa, specialising in marble monuments and church furniture, including fonts and tabernacles. The plaster cast by the London-based plaster cast makers Franchi and Son dates from about1865.
