Charles Bradlaugh was one of the most famous atheists in 19th century England. In 1866, Bradlaugh helped to establish the National Secular Society, an organisation opposed to Christian dogma. In 1888 Bradlaugh’s Oaths Act enabled non-religious affirmations to be accepted as an alternative to religious oaths
