Alfred Gilbert (1854–1934) Portrait of Ignacy Jan Paderewski (1860–1941) 1891, cast in 1934 Gilbert was one of the so-called New Sculptors who led a revival of British sculpture in the 1880s. This work portrays Ignacy Jan Paderewski, the celebrated Polish pianist who later became Prime Minister of Poland. Gilbert completed the model for the cast in two hours, while Paderewski played the piano in his studio. The plaster was not cast into bronze until 1934, suggesting that Gilbert considered it unfinished. London Bronze(2021)
