Mister Stepper puppet is an example of a jig toy, a simple puppet with swinging limbs that moves while being balanced on a thin wooden board. The puppet is made by the German company Naef, who specialise in well designed and well crafted wooden toys. This example dates from the 1970s, a decade not represented in the collections of Naef toys in the Museum. The toy is advertised by Bill Ramsey, an American-German jazz musician whose photograph appears prominently on the cover of the box.
