Object history
The handbill notes that the models of Switzerland were made and sold by I.B. Troye: 'modeller to her late Highness the Princess Charlotte and pupil of the celebrated Mr. Exchaquet, Geometrician to his Majesty the King of Sardinia'. One attraction of the exhibition was a model to the Valley of Bagnes in the Swiss Alps before and after the huge landslide of 1818. During the winter of 1817/1818 masses of ice and snow from the Gietroz Glacier had damned the River Drance and formed Lake Mauvoisin. In June 1818 the lake burst its barriers and caused terrible devastation throughout the entire Val de Bagnes as far as Sembrancher and Martigny.

In 1818 a 16-page leaflet: 'A Description of the Inundation of the Valley of Bagnes in Swisserland [sic]' was published and sold by I.B. Troye and S. Glover, 20 Frith Street.
