According to the handbill, the animal was captured in 'the Mountains of Thibit'. It 'is of a colour never before seen in this Country, being black, and when placed in a powerful light, spots of a still darker hue are perceptible on the skin.... It may be said to partake of the Leopard species, of which naturalists have not yet discovered a nomenclature.'
