Boy's Trousers

1970s (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This garment is part of a range of childrenswear from the 1970s.
These clothes were all dead stock from a childrenswear shop which shut down around the end of the 1970s. Many of the clothes were made in the far east and were imported for sale in the UK. All the garments are unworn, and many retain the brand tags and labels they were initially sold with and give us a valuable snapshot of the styles and fashions that were available to both girls and boys of different ages during this period.

Brief description
Boys' jeans, straight legged black cotton with white piping down the outside of each leg, possibly made in England, 1970s.
Physical description
Trousers made from black cotton denim fabric for a boy of about 11 years old. The trousers are cut with a straight leg. The outside of each trouser leg has a line of white piping attached down the seam, similar in style to a that on a dinner trouser suit. The trousers have a waistband of 3.5cms in depth with 4 belt loops, two at the front, two at the back. The trousers have a button and concealed zip fly. They have 5 pocket style, usual in classic- the front two are cut away with an additional watch pocket on the proper right hand side. The back pockets are rectangular in shape and open at the top. They have matching decorative trim of two parallel horizontally placed white lines on each pocket. The back left hand pocket has a TODDS ® label sewn to the pocket side. The right hand back pocket is similarly branded with a larger sewn on TODDS label in brown fabric with white lettering. The jeans still have the card tag attached which they would have been sold with attached at the back right of the waist band.

Object history
These trousers, along with numbers B.220-2011 to B.239-2011, are all from the same batch of dead shop stock from a childrenswear shop that shut down in the late 1970s. As a result all of the items in this lot are in mint condition, many still have their shop labels attached. All items were purchased via a house clearance company.
