Historical context
While preparing for an exhibition on Thomas Wardle at the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester (2009), Brenda King supplied the information that the burse has the same design as a piece at Gawthorpe Hall, though their version is in green and pinks (personal communication by email, 1.06.2006).
