This diecast black cab is one of a series of 'Great British Classics' produced by Hornby Hobbies Ltd in run up to the 2012 Olympic Games.
It was produced as part of the Corgi product range, in a presentation box emblazoned with London 2012 logos and featuring 'Did you know?' facts, designed to appeal to children and adult collectors. Its official authenticitywais guaranteed by a holographic sticker on the reverse. The other vehicles in the range included a Routemaster bus, a Mini, the Concorde and a Tube Train.
The first Corgi diecast models were made by Mettoy in 1956, and were marketed as 'the ones with windows'. This TX1, first seen on the streets of London in 1997, features not only windows, but also Olympic number plates and a detailed moulded chassis.
