Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This special edition of the classic board game Monopoly was produced in 2011, as official merchandise for the London Olympic Games. It was made in the UK by Winning Moves under license from Hasbro.

Monopoly was first produced in the UK in 1935 by Waddingtons, and has since undergone various reincarnations and updates. However the essential aim of the game, to buy property, charge rents and bankrupt your opponents, has remained the same.

In this special edition, the rules of the game remain the same, but the properties have been adapted to suit the occasion. Park Lane and Mayfair, the most expensive streets on a traditional Monopoly board, have been replaced by the Aquatics Centre and the Olympic Stadium. Chance and Community Chest have also been changed to Heats and Finals, and the houses and hotels replaced by stands and stadia.

This is one of a vast array of products created as Olympic merchandise, many of which are versions of previously successful games.
