Wine Cup

1723-1735 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Chinese potters invented many new colours for porcelain during the Yongzheng reign period (1723-1735). Several scholars have argued that this was due to contributions from Jesuit missionaries working at the Chinese court. The very attractive yellow glaze on these wine cups is brighter than the standard 'imperial yellow'. It was produced by using a lead-antimony enamel which also contains zinc.
