Cha gang is Chinese for a white enamel mug, a commonplace in Chairman Mao's era. By identifying his fashion work with a vernacular object, Wang Yiyang expresses his personal understanding of fashion and the country's complicated cultural history. As well as their understated beauty, his unisex clothes often have some surprising details, such as twisted sleeves or a padded strip along the hemline.
