Brief description
T-shirt, 'Worker, Peasant and Soldier', Shirtflag, Ji Ji, Shanghai, 2007
Gallery label
(2009)
The use of images from Mao's era is well established in Chinese avant-garde art. Ji Ji deconstructs their political meanings by mixing them with symbols of global culture such as the Gameboy. He launched Shirtflag, his first street T-shirt label, in Shanghai in 2003. Its ironic and mischievous style has become a hit among Shanghai youth.
