This glove puppet of Landlord Jellybean was made by Paul Hansard in 1982 for his puppet show The Scarlet Pimpernel.

Although Paul Hansard’s career as a one-man puppeteer began in 1971 when John Wright invited him to give six puppet shows at the Little Angel Marionette Theatre in Islington, Paul Hansard had worked with puppets before, and his puppet show Johnny and Flonny, about a rabbit and a little boy who was always getting into scrapes, was shown as a weekly serial on ITV’s Small Timewhen ITV aired for the first time in 1955.

Over the course of his career as a one-man puppet show between 1971 and 1994, Paul Hansard created 13 shows, gave 3,971 performances and made over 200 puppets

Physical description
Glove puppet of Sir Percy Blakeney, with a long hooked nose, a papier mâché face painted with black eyes and light brown eyebrows, and burgundy-coloured leather mitten hands. He has grey woollen hair in the style of an 18th century gentleman's wig, adorned with a black bow on the ponytail. He wears a plum-coloured shirt with white cotton cuffs and a white stock, and a green corduroy apron over a grey twill 'skirt'. The skirt is made to cover the puppeteer's hand and wrist.
