This football was manufactured by Mitre, the company that makes the official England team's footballs. It is slightly smaller than a league football; on the FIFA official scale, it is a size 4 ball, with 1 being the smallest and 5 the largest and league football size. This size football is used in certain championship games, namely Futsol (5-a-side indoor football) and is also aimed at players in the 9 - 12 years old bracket. Mitre have been manufacturing footballs since 1817, becoming the official supplier of footballs to the Football Association only in 1992. Prior to this, the Football Association had used leather balls, but with the adoption of Mitre as official manufacturer, they began to use synthetic balls made of polyurethane such as this one. This particular ball was played with a by child in East London in the late 1990s.
