T-Shirt
2010 to 2011 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
This white t-shirt for an eight year old girl was part of the first Scotch R’belle range in spring/summer 2011, a girl’s collection from Amsterdam-based label Scotch & Soda.
The illustration on the front of the t-shirt describes, in childish handwriting, the walk up a runway. From backstage at the bottom, arrows proceed through admonitions and instructions like ‘shoulders back’, ‘strong face’, and ‘Do not stop here!’
The combination of text with illustration style and diminutive scale of the garment, perhaps comments on the role of young girls as models for couture fashion. It’s interesting to consider how a young wearer of this t-shirt would interpret the references to physical control and bodily performance.
This garment was sold at Selfridges & Co. department store, Oxford Street, London.
