This mount was bought from Siegfried Bing's shop 'L'Art Nouveau', 22 Rue de Provence, Paris, for £29.16s.8d. Born in Paris of Dutch parentage, De Feure started his career as a book illustrator and gained a reputation as a poster designer in the 1890s. He also designed interiors in a delicate Art Nouveau style, as well as furniture, porcelain, glass and metalwork. He was extensively patronised by Siegfried Bing, who devoted an exhibition to his work in 1903.
