This cartoon was specially commissioned for the winter 2011 edition of the V&A Magazine, to accompany an article by Julius Bryant written in connection with the exhibition Private Eye: the first 50 years, 18 October- 8 January. The artist kindly offered to donate the original drawing to the collection.
Martin Honeysett’s cartoons and illustrations have appeared in many publications, including Punch, Private Eye, the Radio Times, the Oldie, the Spectator, the Sunday Telegraph and the Observer. This drawing joins the V&A’s large and distinguished collection of caricatures, which includes works by Hogarth, Rowlandson, Gillray, Cruikshank, John Leech, Linley Sambourne, Bateman, Osbert Lancaster, David Low and Fougasse.
